Robin Cann, MSW, RSW

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply sensing that something needs attention, even if you’re not sure how to name it yet. Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and gain perspective, with support along the way.

I strive to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences, build on your strengths, and work toward goals that matter to you.

About Me

I am a Registered Social Worker (Clinical Specialist) with over ten years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults navigating mental health challenges, substance-related difficulties, and relational concerns. My experience in the public mental health and addictions system has strongly informed my clinical work, and in private practice I focus on thoughtful, collaborative, and relational care that attends to both individual experiences and the broader social context.

My practice is grounded in an emotion-focused, attachment-informed approach, drawing on evidence-based modalities such as Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I strive to practice in ways that are anti-oppressive and socially aware, recognizing that distress and healing are shaped not only by internal experiences, but also by relationships, systems, and power dynamics. Together, we explore emotions, thoughts, relational patterns, coping strategies, and personal strengths, guided by your goals and values.

In sessions, you can expect a space that is attentive, active, steady, and non-judgmental, where there is room to reflect, process, and develop new ways of understanding yourself and your relationships. I work with individuals, families, and groups, addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and other life challenges, while remaining attentive to the social contexts in which these difficulties arise.

Services

I offer in person and virtual psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families in a way that is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in respect for each person’s lived experience. My work is shaped by a social work lens; one that understands people within the context of their relationships, communities, identities, and the systems they move through.

Therapy with me is not about being “fixed.” It’s about having a space where you can slow down, feel understood, and make sense of what you’re carrying. Together, we work to build insight, strengthen coping, and support change in ways that feel compassionate, realistic, and aligned with your values.

I provide non-judgmental support for a range of concerns, including:

  • Trauma and the impacts of difficult or overwhelming experiences
  • Anxiety, chronic worry, and stress
  • Depression, persistent sadness, or low mood
  • Parenting support and family-related challenges
  • Relationship and interpersonal concerns
  • Navigating intense or overwhelming emotions
  • Self-esteem and self-worth
  • Perfectionism and a strong inner critic
  • Loneliness and isolation
  • Grief and loss
  • Major life transitions and periods of uncertainty
  • Work–life balance
  • Compassion fatigue, burnout, and supporting those in helping roles
