Service Policies

Robin Cann MSW, RSW is registered by the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers as a Private Practice Social Worker. Under our current health system, fees for private practice social work services are not covered by MSI. However, many insurance plans (such as those you might have through your employer or school) do cover the services of social workers. If your insurance plan covers services by psychologists or massage therapists,  you probably also have coverage for a social worker; but please check with your insurance provider to be certain.

I am happy  to share that direct billing is available to Blue Cross and Greenshield. Signed receipts will be provided to those who have insurance plans that I am unable to bill directly, so that you can be reimbursed according to your plan.

It is also important to note that you can claim out-of-pocket therapy costs under the Medical Expense Tax Credit.

Rates

The current hourly rate is $150 per therapy hour (50 minute individual session). Rates for group or family sessions may differ depending on the program being offered. Sliding scale rates are available to those in need.

Forms of Payment Accepted

Payments can be in the form of  email money transfer (e-transfer) or cash. Direct billing is available for Blue Cross and Green Shield insurance providers.

Confidentiality & Personal Health Information

Protecting and maintaining your privacy and confidentiality is absolutely crucial, and a cornerstone value of ethical social work practice.  In general,  information that you share with Robin will not be released to external sources without your consent. There are a few exceptional circumstances in which Robin may have to release information without your permission. These exceptions include situations in which clients are at imminent risk of harming self or others,  information related to suspected abuse of a child or an elder is shared,  or in the event of a court order or subpoena.

Robin will only collect personal information needed to engage in the therapy agreed upon. The first time you meet with Robin, she will discuss with you in detail the types of information she will collect from you, why this information is necessary (in accordance with the NSCSW Code of Ethics), and how that information will be stored confidentially and securely. This information will also be offered to you in writing. If you have any questions or concerns about these policies, please ask! We will only proceed with our work together when you understand and consent to these privacy, confidentiality, and information collection/storage policies.

Robin provides only voluntary counselling and psychotherapy services.
